Power points
& USB outlets

More power where you actually need it: extra and double power points, USB outlets, outdoor points and dedicated circuits for big appliances.

Most homes run short of power points in the wrong places: behind the TV, beside the bed, along the kitchen bench and in the garage. Power boards and extension leads strung around the house are a sign it’s time for more points.

Joel adds new points, swaps singles for doubles, fits USB and USB-C outlets for charging, and installs weatherproof outdoor points for the patio, garden or shed. Big appliances like ovens, cooktops and some heaters get their own dedicated circuit.

What’s involved

  • Plan where each point goes
  • Check the circuit and switchboard capacity
  • New points installed or upgraded
  • Weatherproof points outside
  • Tested and certified

Double and extra points

Swap single points for doubles and add points where the furniture and appliances actually are, so the power boards can go.

USB and USB-C outlets

Built-in charging at the bench, bedside and desk, so phones and tablets charge without bulky plug packs.

Outdoor and garage points

Weatherproof points for the patio, garden tools, pool equipment or the workshop, placed and protected to suit the spot.

Every new point is tested before the job is handed over.

Can you add a power point to an existing wall?

Usually, yes. Joel runs a cable from a nearby circuit or the switchboard, through the wall cavity where possible, and fits the new point with as little patching as possible.

Are USB power points worth it?

For bedsides, kitchen benches and desks, yes. They free up sockets and get rid of plug packs. USB-C outlets with a higher output suit newer phones and tablets.

Can I install a power point myself?

No. In Victoria, fixed electrical work such as power points must be done by a licensed electrician, who issues a Certificate of Electrical Safety for the work.

Do I need a new circuit for a new appliance?

Large appliances such as ovens, induction cooktops, some heaters and EV chargers usually need their own circuit. Joel checks what the appliance needs and whether the switchboard has room.

Can you install outdoor power points?

Yes. Outdoor points use weatherproof fittings rated for the conditions, placed and protected to suit where they’re going.
